Shopping for your wedding dress should be a fun and memorable experience. Knowing when to start the process, which boutiques to visit and who to bring along on the day, are just some of the questions that face every bride. The pandemic has certainly changed the way many of us shop and planning your wedding dress shopping experience is now more important so here are our top tips….
When should I start looking for my wedding dress?
When to order a wedding dress is one of the most asked questions we receive, and many brides underestimate the time it takes!
As a guide, we recommend you start looking for your dress 12 – 18 months before your wedding. Depending upon the designer, it can now take up to 7-8 months to make your dress, and we like to allow 12 weeks for alterations to ensure that your dress is perfect for your day.
When ordering your dress, we aim to have your gown arrive with us about 3-4 months before your wedding, in time for you to try the dress on and gives you plenty of time for alterations, especially if you are planning on having any bespoke alterations, like adding sleeves etc. We work closely with local professional wedding dress seamstresses, who we recommend and can plan ahead, so that the process is stress free!
Of course, there are brides who will not have the time to plan this far ahead and will need a dress quicker. This does not mean that you will be without a dress, there is always the option of a sample gown! Our sample dresses are kept in immaculate condition, and we will always ensure we can help our brides have their dream dress. Our recommended seamstresses will do what they can within their workplan to accommodate tight timescales.
Booking your Appointment
Do your research … think about the bridal boutiques you want to visit and have an idea of the designers you like. Check out the boutique’s website, see if they stock the designers and styles, you like the look of and read the reviews! It’s important that you have the best experience, it will only help you if you are looking in the right boutique to start with.

Brides often struggle with having too many opinions, which can be conflicting and confusing. Have a think about who you want to be with you. At Little London Brides, we don’t limit the number of guests, but as a guide we can comfortably seat about 4.
